Notes: This large scale showstopper is from Simon’s works on paper series. This piece represents the largest and most detailed format used thus far to present these works. This work in particular took several weeks to achieve and combines hand cut elements from over 10 different scientific illustration books, vintage atlases, fashion and art books. This work features powerful female figures in a communal setting which is unusual for Simon’s work which usually features a main character or possibly a couple. The vibrant color scheme and flora and fauna draw influence from an African savanna teaming with life and energy. All the characters presented here have compelling stances, and diverse animal companions. This piece comes framed in a simple yet elegant silver frame. The piece is signed and dated Simon Vargas 2018.
